Angolo Veneziano Della Via

8"x10" Oil On Gessobord

Venice painting #2. This painting was done from a photograph I took while traveling through Venice, Italy. This was one of those impulse shots. We were casually strolling down the street when I noticed this corner. It just struck me as being perfectly composed. I loved mostly the angles in this photo. It also caught my eye with its cozy charm. I love wrought iron. This painting was hard not to paint tightly but I feel I did a good job at painting a non-organic subject as loose as I could, one of my struggles as a painter. I am glad I finished it tonight, I was getting a little bored with it. Time to move on.

your impulse with the camera was good...for a good eye to shoot an outstanding photo and catch a good working composition are nearly one and the same with the painter.

This has very good variation and juxtapositions, space and line intruding, contrasts...and all which makes for a compelling piece.

Many artists shoot themselves in the foot by beginning with something that does not have such things, and then try to force art out of it. Not so much then an inability to paint as to compose.

Very nice...

Lisa,

Just wanted you to know we are in the same situation. I havent painted in years and I am trying to get back into it.....its not easy. I do think seeing others painting daily is very inspiring. Just wanted to say hello and "come visit when you can",,,,,we can encourage each other.
